ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Web Developer is a hands-on role within the Bionews Technology department, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Technology. This position is focused on the development, optimization, and maintenance of our WordPress-based digital platforms. The ideal candidate is passionate about coding, has a deep understanding of WordPress, and is eager to dive into both frontend and backend development to ensure our platforms deliver superior digital experiences.

 

LOCATION: Remote (US)

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain WordPress sites, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.

  • Engage directly in coding, including theme and plugin development, custom post types, and advanced custom fields.

  • Collaborate with the technology team to implement and integrate technologies such as Google Analytics, Tag Manager, and Ad Manager within the WordPress ecosystem.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across the WordPress stack, ensuring the smooth operation of our digital platforms.

  • Contribute to architecture design and code reviews, promoting best practices in WordPress development.

  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in WordPress and web development, applying this knowledge to improve our platforms.

  • Work closely with other departments to ensure technical solutions align with business needs and editorial objectives.

 

ABOUT YOU

  • Extensive experience in hands-on WordPress development, with a strong portfolio of work.

  • Proficiency in PHP (Timber & Twig), HTML, MySQL, CSS, JavaScript, and related frameworks.

  • Experience with cloud-based resources such as Github, Google Cloud Platform, New Relic,  data warehouses, Airbyte, CDPs, BigQuery, Google Analytics, Google Ad Manager and other advertising technologies. 

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex coding tasks.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a remote team.

  • A proactive attitude and a passion for learning and implementing new technologies.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred (or equivalent practical experience).

  • Proven experience in digital content or media industries is a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality code in a fast-paced environment.

  • A deep understanding of WordPress architecture and development best practices.
