Bluesight is looking for an Data Engineering Manager to help us redefine and grow our suite of healthcare data products to further the company's mission of "Medication Intelligence". Our hospital and pharmacy customers rely on us to keep their patients safe and their pharmacies running smoothly while delighting them with every release. By streamlining their pharmacy's daily routines with our RFID inventory management solution and reducing risk and enhancing their compliance with our controlled substance tracking and privacy compliance platforms, we're committed to improving medication management for our nation's healthcare providers, and our data operations and products are the backbone of our offerings. 

The Opportunity
The Engineering Manager will lead a team building data architectures and platforms that are robust, extensible, and responsive. This includes data ingestion, extract and transformation as well as creating reusable, composable data products that create shared value from raw data. Prior experience developing cross-product data architecture is desirable (especially if any of those were re-engineered efforts!), as well as a cooperative approach to the work. 

This role will work on the spectrum of our data product offerings, from data governance and security to transformation and implementation, working closely with product owners, engineering teams and data scientists to define, create and maintain the architecture.

You can expect to:

    • Leverage your engineering skills in helping the teams architect and build features of the product approximately 30-50% of the time. 
    • Work to unblock the team, while contributing to feature development.
    • Participate in design and code reviews across the team’s projects. 
    • Manage and develop your team through hiring, coaching, and continuous improvement.
    • Advance company, product, and team objectives.
    • Develop and champion good data stewardship and governance practices across the company and work closely with Security
    • Design and support customer facing data products both with API and interactive components.
    • Provide service levels to our data scientists who are clients of your data pipelines and architecture

About you:

    • Proven track record of leading a team to deliver results
    • Expertise in data orchestration and workflow management tools such as Apache Airflow, Apache NiFi, and Spark, AWS Glue for ETL/ELT/Zero-ETL pipelines
    • Competency in SQL, ETL processes, denormalization concepts and programming (dbt, Python, Scala)
    • Ability to communicate clearly with all audiences about data architecture and implementations, from engineering to product, sales to customer. Strong written and analytical skills.
    • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) – CloudFormation or Terraform – to build and maintain data engineering pipelines
    • Familiarity with observability tools like DataDog to monitor data pipelines, set up alerts, triage incidents, resolve customer issues, and continuous product improvement
    • Experience with data warehousing platforms and tools such as Amazon Redshift, S3 and delta tables
    • Strong bias for action, documentation and education
    • Ability to work through ambiguity with open communication and autonomy

    • Prior experience as a senior data or software engineer and team leader
    • Strong written and analytical skills
    • History of architecting, designing, and developing scalable production applications
    • Experience leading remote teams (we are a fully remote team that meets in person as needed a few times a year)

    • Any code, writing or projects that are shareable demonstrating experience or understanding of how data architecture excellence is key to delivering great products
    • Experience working with data in a regulated industry and working around systemic data quality issues

$160,000 - $180,000 a year
This is the standard base pay range for this role. In addition to a base salary this position is also eligible for an amazing benefits package. Actual amount of salary will vary depending on position offered, experience, performance, and location.
This position is a remote position and open to applicants in the continental United States.
