Position Title: Deployment Engineering Manager

Position Summary:
The Senior Deployment Manager is a key member of the engineering team responsible for leading the development and delivery of utility-scale energy storage solutions in the USA and globally. The team im- plements Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) capable of ultra-fast response to dispatch commands and grid supply variations.
This candidate should be familiar with power systems, utility generation, protection, and transmission systems, as well as modern industrial networks and utility communication protocols. The role involves defining the overall integrated energy storage solution, including developing technical requirements, product testing, and working closely with other departments to ensure project success. The Senior De- ployment Manager must have detailed knowledge of current battery energy storage technologies and experience in integrating batteries, inverters, and plant controls.
Management Responsibilities:
- Drive operational changes by setting up procedures and systems.
- Delegate and empower team members.
- Build partnerships with vendors and internal departments.
- Coach new recruits and inspire others.
- Drive knowledge transfer to support the continuous growth of the business.
- Conduct regular performance assessments and recognize team members.
- Mentor team members and supervise work processes to ensure high-quality delivera- bles meet timelines and budget commitments.
- Develop new tools, implement processes, provide feedback, and collaborate with stake- holders to ensure continuous improvement of the technology/engineering/delivery value stream.
Product Development and Qualification Responsibilities:
Execute the technical strategy and roadmap for embedded, data ingestion, and cloud software and hardware development, aligned with the organization's business goals and objectives.
- Utilize strong leadership skills to make an immediate impact.
- Lead discussions with technical leaders to evaluate and select appropriate technologies, tools, and frameworks to support the development process and meet project require- ments.
- Work closely with customers and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Draft and negotiate BESS plant controller technical requirements.
- Manage stakeholders, utilities, and suppliers of fast-response controllers for design and deliverables.
- Verify testing and commissioning of new advanced BESS plant controls.
Related Experience:
- At least 15 years of domain experience in solar PV or battery energy storage controls.
- Experience with power grid, power generation, and/or renewable integration control.
- Experience with utility market applications.
- Experience with power systems modeling tools.
- Expertise in model-based control software development.
- Experience with Linux command-line.
- Programming knowledge: Scripting (Python, Batch), relationship & time series data- bases, writing automated tests, Jupyter, Deepnote.
- Experience with Azure and AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with version control systems, such as SVN, GIT or other
- Experience with ticketing systems, such as Jira or other
- Experience with knowledge base platforms such as Confluence or other
- Experience with external and internal portal development
Personal Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Ad- vanced degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- 15+ years of experience as a Development Manager or in a similar role in the energy storage or related industry.
- Excellent project management skills with a track record of successfully leading complex projects from concept to completion.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Extensive experience in real-time embedded controls and cloud-based development of software for real-time and non-real-time energy technology platforms.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with a demonstrated ability to deliver and follow up on large-scale projects on time and within budget.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effec- tively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Passion for building a transparent, accountable team.
- Domain experience with controls software for utility-scale photovoltaic or battery en- ergy storage systems.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%, including international travel.
